When I was in kindergarten I was officially wondering if I had autism as I was not interacting with my peers, had a hard time dealing with change and changing repetitive motions into not repetitive motions. With the "self-diagnosis" I wondered who to turn to. I was not officially diagnosed with autism until an older age. The diagnosis was a challenge for my parents and I as we had never heard the word Autism before. When I was officially diagnosed I remember wondering "Why me?" I only wanted to be included in fun events with my peers, be able to do some of the same things as my peers without disabilities like get a job and graduate from high school. Autism is not as much of a barrier for me nowadays. I have overcome the barriers that come with autism.
